Hundreds of Legion Riders rolled into Fairfax, Va. to spend Memorial Day weekend honoring fallen veterans and Gold Star families. A Friday night Poppy Ride and candlelight vigil at the Vietnam Memorial and a Saturday wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery was capped off with a lap around the National Mall during the annual Rolling Thunder ride.
For the past 80 years, American Legion Post 213 in Sherwood, N.D. and multiple posts from the Royal Canadian Legion have been exchanging flags and honoring those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice on the Canadian border.
On July 27, 2014 – the 61st anniversary of the armistice that ended full-scale hostilities and paved the way for their release – ex-POWs of the Korean War will gather for what’s likely to be their final reunion in Louisville, Ky. Some of their stories were told in the May 2014 issue of The American Legion Magazine, and are repeated here.
